Third in an occasional series.

N ot surprisingly, one of the most common underwriter carts you hear on MPR is for Microsoft. It plays thus:

". . . brought to you by Microsoft. Your potential inspires us to create software to help you reach it . . ." Dramatic hesitation ". . . your potential . . . Microsoft."

It's fitting that Microsoft's slogan should be as grammatically tortured as their software, but nonetheless I'm struck by the self-effacement of the promo. I hear this ad and I see Bill Gates grovelling before us like Iago. Pay no heed, I beg of you! Stop your ears with wax before it's too late.

PS. Microsoft just patented the double-click over in Europe. Can they read what I'm typing right now?
