Second in an occasional series.
I heard another somewhat bizarre underwriter cart on Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) the other day. It went like this:
". . . supported in part by Smith Barney . . ." Short pause for emphasis ". . . This is who we are, this is how we earn it."
They don't tell you what "this" is, however, and the entire thing seems awfully meaningless. Are they saying that underwriting MPR is "who they are," and "how they earn it?" So I did some research. I wanted to find out just who "Smith Barney" really was . . .
PS. The stock broker in question, Jack Grubman, was most notorious for helping the now defunct Worldcom rise to economic dominance. He's rather infamous these days.
